Heartbreak in Paris: Vinesh Phogat Disqualified from Olympic Wrestling
India’s top wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, was on the verge of achieving ultimate success at the Paris Olympic Games but now faces disqualification from the competition.
According to a tweet by ANI, Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg category due to being overweight. The Indian Olympic Association expressed deep regret over this news, stating that despite the team’s efforts throughout the night, Vinesh’s weight was slightly over the 50kg limit during the morning weigh-in. The Indian team has requested privacy for Vinesh and will not be making any further comments at this time, as they focus on the remaining competitions.
Previously, Vinesh had made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the finals of an Olympic wrestling event. However, her journey took an unexpected turn when the Indian coach disclosed that she exceeded the weight limit by just 100 grams on Wednesday morning. Despite the minimal difference, the rules are strict, and no exceptions can be made.
